Sofra

The Art of Food and Conversation

Sofra and food culture make up the identity of a Nation.  What changes these two is geography. The climate of the area the people live in and the food obtained from that land primarily determines the way people eat and drink there. Other civilisations that interact with that community also effects their food culture.

The Turkish cuisine is a priceless culmination of knowledge gifted to us through our mothers who have, for many generations, archived recipes of legendary dishes, first ever initiating in Middle Asia* combined with the knowledge of Anatolian civilizations` food cultures which date back to as far as 12,000 years.

Sofras are where groups and communities experience solidarity and connection. There are numerousSofraswhere different groups of opposition have been able to come together and make peace. The food we eat together strengthens our family and friendship ties. Besides offering food at the sofra table, Sofra culture ensures that family members come together to seeand hear one another; provides a platform to create solutions and bonding.

To us, Sofra is an art form both through the setting of the table and through the food and conversation over it. This blend of art and flavour is food for the soul.

The greatest legacy we have from our families is Sofra. For coming back together as a family at the Sofra , sharing moments and glimpses of ourselves in sickness and in health, and creating an unforgettable memory accompanied by flavours and scents of dishes from recipes handed down to us by our elders is a splendidly invaluable experience.
